It is not the size; it is the quality of the gift.

Torah Portion:                  Numbers 5-1-7:89

Halph Torah Portion:       Judges 13:2-25

New Testament:               Luke 1:11-20

In this Torah Portion, we see that YHVH is separating people. The first section deals with those in the camp with leprosy and other problems that required them to separate.

Chapter 5          Is dealing with separating those with leprosy and other problems from the camp.

Then the next part is dealing with restitution and restoring the thing that was taken or destroyed and adding 1/5 into the payment.

Lastly, it deals with the suspected adulterous wife when the spirit of jealousy arises in the husband.

Chapter 6          Largely deals with the vow of a Nazerite.

VSS 22 ff the Aaronic blessing

Chapter 7         Deals with the arrangement of the Tabernacle and the offering from the tribes.

I found this interesting as each gave the same. At first, it seemed rather boring. A closer look at this shows that this was done by YHVH for nowhere did YHVH tell Moses that each tribe was to give the same thing.

Notice that YHVH told Moses that he was to receive the offering for this was for the Tabernacle service. So, they were distributed amongst the son of Levi, except for Korah.

So why didn’t Korah receive anything? Reading further reveals that their service was to carry the things of the Tabernacle, the Alter, the table of showbread (the bread of the presence), the Menorah, the ark of the Covenant, and the Mercy seat.

Korah’s tribe had a very important and privileged task.

Now, when their gifts were presented, they each gave them over a period of 12 days. As when the census was to be taken, they gave ½ shekel not one gave more or less. Each gave the ½ shekel.

In the same manner, each tribe gave what the others gave. It is not just what they gave, it is that they gave of what was in their heart to give. YHVH thought was important that they gave so much that it is included in what we read.

Mar 12:41-44 MKJV

(41) And sitting down opposite the treasury, Jesus watched how the people threw copper coins into the treasury. And many rich ones threw in much.

(42)  And a certain poor widow came, and she threw in two lepta, which is a kodrantes.

(43)  And He called His disciples and said to them, Truly I say to you that this poor widow has cast in more than all those who have cast into the treasury.

(44)  For all cast in from their abundance. But she, out of her poverty, has cast in all that she had, all her livelihood.

What the widow gave was more than all of the others, who gave out of their abundance, she gave of what she needed to live on. It does not matter how much you give rather it is from where you give.

If we give what we have and not even give it a thought for in our thinking it would not be missed. She gave up what she needed to live. I am not saying that we should only give until it hurts us, rather I am saying that we need to YHVH our best.

Mal 1:6-14 MKJV

(6) A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My fear? says Jehovah of Hosts to you, O priests who despise My name. And you say, In what way have we despised Your name?

(7)  You offer defiled bread upon My altar, and you say, In what way have we defiled You? In your saying, The table of Jehovah, it is a thing to be despised.

(8)  And if you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? And if you offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Bring it now to your governor. Will he accept you, or lift up your face, says Jehovah of Hosts?

(9)  And now entreat the face of God, that He favor us. This has been by your hands, will He lift up your faces, says Jehovah of Hosts?

(10)  Who is even among you who will shut the doors, and you not kindle fire on My altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you, says Jehovah of Hosts. I will not be pleased with an offering from you.

(11)  For from the rising of the sun even to its going in, My name shall be great among the nations; and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name, and a pure food offering. For My name shall be great among the nations, says Jehovah of Hosts.

(12)  But you are profaning it when you say, The table of Jehovah, it is polluted; and its fruit, His food, is to be despised.

(13)  You also said, Behold, what a weariness it is! And you have puffed at it, says Jehovah of Hosts. And you bring plunder, and the lame, and the sick, and you bring the food offering. Should I accept it from your hand, says Jehovah?

(14)  But cursed be a deceiver; and there is in his flock a male, yet he vows it, but sacrifices to Jehovah a blemished one. For I am a great king, says Jehovah of Hosts, and My name is feared among the nations.

When we give with a stingy eye and only give the worst, second best, YHVH sees the motive behind the gift. We are to give the very best of what we have to Him.

This can take on different meanings. That is when we are presented with an opportunity to give to a poor person, and we give him the worst of what we have or we him less than what he asked for.

Do not give it a thought give what is in your ability and do not worry for the Father will return it. Even the tribes gave what is their heart to give. It seemed that they only gave what everyone else gave, rather it was what the Father laid upon their heart to give.

We are to judge them for what they gave rather than what they gave. And all the tribes were represented in the offering and they all got credit

This is not a message that you should or shouldn’t give rather that when you give, give your best, and when vow to give so much, honor your words by delivering what you had promised. You will see that YHVH will bless you in abundance.

Act 5:1-11 MKJV

(1) And a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession.

(2)  And he kept back part of the price, his wife also knowing, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

(3)  But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart for you to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

(4)  While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own authority? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.

(5)  And hearing these words, Ananias fell down and expired. And great fear came on all those who heard these things.

(6)  And the younger ones arose, wound him up, and carrying him out, they buried him.

(7)  And it was about the space of three hours afterward, when his wife (not knowing what was done) came in.

(8)  And Peter answered her, Tell me whether you sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much.

(9)  Then Peter said to her, How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door and they will carry you out.

(10)  Then at once she fell down at his feet and expired. And the younger ones found her dead, and, carrying her out, buried her beside her husband.

(11)  And great fear came on all the church and on as many as heard these things.

Concerning the suspected adulterous wife. This is speaking just to husband and wife, rather it is concerning our unfaithfulness to our Husband. When we go a whoring after other gods that are not gods. Yet we act as if they are.

He says that He is a jealous GOD and that He will judge us for not being faithful to Him. He makes a distinction between us and the world and He sets us apart from the world. We are the ones who said, “All that you said we will do”.

Exo 19:3-8 MKJV

(3) And Moses went up to God, and Jehovah called to him out of the mountain, saying, You shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the sons of Israel:

(4)  You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.

(5)  And now if you will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me above all the nations; for all the earth is Mine.

(6)  And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the sons of Israel.

(7)  And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which Jehovah commanded him.

(8)  And all the people answered together and said, All that Jehovah has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people to Jehovah.

I do not see YHVH twisting their arms to submit to His commands. They freely said with one voice and said that all that He says we will do. In essence, they accepted the vows of marriage.

There was an offer and they accepted and even knowing the rest of the covenant. Which follows in chapter 20 and following. So, when we sinned at the golden calf,

YHVH was jealous because they went whoring after the image of the golden calf. We take Him for granted for He is merciful.

Joh 8:2-11 MKJV

(2) And early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him. And He sat down and taught them.

(3)  And the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman taken in adultery. And standing her in the midst,

(4)  they said to Him, Teacher, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

(5)  Now Moses in the Law commanded us that such should be stoned. You, then, what do you say?

(6)  They said this, tempting Him so that they might have reason to accuse Him. But bending down, Jesus wrote on the ground with His finger, not appearing to hear.

(7)  But as they continued to ask Him, He lifted Himself up and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.

(8)  And again bending down, He wrote on the ground.

(9)  And hearing, and being convicted by conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at the oldest, until the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

(10)  And bending back up, and seeing no one but the woman, Jesus said to her, Woman, where are the ones who accused you? Did not one give judgment against you?

(11)  And she said, No one, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I give judgment. Go, and sin no more.

Here we have the Master of the Universe who had the right to stone her and had compassion on her. And forgave her, so she was set free from the bondage. Who are we but created people in His image? We too are guilty and only He can and does forgive us.

Interesting that He said to the men who were willing to kill her, “He is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.”  They all left from the oldest to the youngest and only the woman was left. She knew that she was worthy to die, the men were convicted one by one and left. We should only judge ourselves for we are all worthy of death.

As that the 3,000 died who worshipped the idol. What can be said? Only YHVH can forgive us for what we have done. In Torah Portion we give according to what is in our heart to give. Do not resist what YHVH has given us to give. Do not think that you will unnoticed when you pledge that you will give so much and become greedy.

YHVH made an example of Annius and Sephirah, who conspired as to what the land sold for and gave according to the lie they spoke. They died as a result of their lie. Do not boast about what you will do or go, rather say as God will’s I shall go here or there, and if it is His will make money.

YHVH is great and He knows what we give and credit us as if we did whatever the project is. When they gave towards the building of the Tabernacle, they all got credit for building the Tabernacle.
