2Chronicels 34 and the Book of the Torah (Law)
I want to quote Isaiah 28:9-13 before we begin
Isa 28:9-13 MKJV Whom shall He teach knowledge? And whom shall He make to understand doctrine? Those weaned from the milk and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little; for with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people. To whom He said, this is the rest; cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing.
Yet they were not willing to hear. But the Word of Jehovah was to them precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken and snared and taken.
Lead in
Last week I explained that there is a distinction between the Book of the Covenant and the Book of the Law. I also showed that there was a change in the priesthood because of transgression which resulted in a Levitical Priesthood instead of a Melkizedek Priesthood. So rather than Israel becoming a Nation of Priests they became a nation under a priesthood. The Levites was chosen to serve in the Tabernacle instead of the firstborns. We do not know how this priesthood wood have looked like with the firstborns since it was never explained to us, but instead, the Levitical Priesthood was given. At this point we can only speculate.
Just to make the point clear, we have 3 parts to the Torah. Well, there is 5 different parts. The creation account and Genealogies are 2 parts to this as well, but for the sake of understanding what exactly King Josiah read, we make a distinction between the following 3 parts:
- Book of the Covenant
- Change in Priesthood
- Book of the Law (Torah)
So, getting back to our story, King Josiah finished with cleaning up all Israel, both the lands of the Northern Tribes and the lands of Judea and Benjamin. At the age of 26, 18 years after he became King he returned to Jerusalem and gave order that the Temple need to be repaired. Jeremiah was giving prophecy and calling all Israel back to repentance. King Josiah was all exited, walking in the ways of his father King David, cleaning up the land from Idolatry and worshipping Yahweh, when the book of the Law was found hidden in the Temple.
When the book of the Law was read to King Josiah, and he understood the condemnation within it, he tore his clothes in anguish for Israel has done exactly what the Book of the Law said they should not do. King Josiah knows, because during him cleaning up the land, he saw it all. King Josiah knows about the great mercies of Yahweh, so he sent Hilkiah and some others to go enquire from Yahweh what they should do.
2Chronicles – Chapter 34
Huldah Prophesies Disaster
22 And Hilkiah, and they that the King had appointed, went to Huldah the Prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe – now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter – and they spoke to her to that effect.
23 And she answered them, This says YHVH Elohim of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to Me,
24 This says YHVH, See, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it, even all the curses that are written in the scroll that they have read before the King of Judah:
25 Because they have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other elohim, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore My wrath shall be poured out upon this place, and shall not be quenched.
26 And as for the King of Judah, who sent you to inquire of YHVH, so shall you say to him, This says YHVH Elohim of Israel concerning the words which you have heard;
27 Because your heart was tender, and you did humble yourself before Elohim, when you heard His words against this place, and against its inhabitants and humbled yourself before Me, and did tear your clothes, and weep before Me; I have even heard you also, says YHVH.
28 See, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place, and upon the inhabitants of it. So they brought the King word again.
At this time, Zephaniah also prophesied. His prophecy was about the destruction of all the land. Jeremiah’s prophecy changed from one of repentance to one of destruction. The prophet Nahum prophesied about the destruction of Nineveh. Assyria and Egypt were at war with Babylon that time, but if Nineveh fell, Jerusalem would be right between Babylon and Egypt which would not be good for the House of Judah.
Let’s go have a look at the book of the Torah and the condemnation that is within it.
The Book of the Torah (Law)
The Book of Deuteronomy is the Book of the Torah (Law). Everything written in Deuteronomy was given at the same time, just before Joshua took the Israelites into the land of promise. Let’s go and look at the verses that indicate this.
Deu 1:1 MKJV These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain opposite the Red Sea, between Paran and Tophel and Laban and Hazeroth and Dizahab,
Deu 1:2 MKJV eleven days from Horeb by way of Mount Seir to Kadesh-barnea.
Deu 1:3 MKJV And it happened, in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first of the month, Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that Jehovah had commanded him concerning them;
Deu 1:4 MKJV after he had smitten Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth in Edrei,
Deu 1:5 MKJV beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this Law, saying,
Deu 2:14 MKJV And the days in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered were thirty-eight years; until the end of all the generation. The men of war were destroyed from the midst of the camp, as Jehovah swore to them.
Deu 2:15 MKJV And the hand of Jehovah was against them, to destroy them from among the camp, until they were consumed.
Deu 2:16 MKJV And it happened, when all the men of war had finished dying from among the people,
Deu 2:17 MKJV Jehovah spoke to me, saying,
Deu 2:18 MKJV today you are passing over the border of Moab, even Ar.
Then Moses explains about their war against Sihon, King of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan and how these lands were divided up between Ruben, Gad and the ½ Tribe of Manasseh.
From Deuteronomy chapter 4, Moses renews the Covenant with the people. All of this being recorded in the book of the Torah (Law)
Deu 4:2 MKJV You shall not add to the Word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, so that you may keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I command you.
Deu 4:5 MKJV Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, so that you should do so in the land where you go to possess it.
Deu 4:6 MKJV And you shall keep and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Deu 4:8 MKJV And who is a great nation whose statutes and judgments are so righteous as all this Law which I set before you today?
Deu 4:9 MKJV Only take heed to yourself and keep your soul carefully, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. But teach them to your sons, and your sons’ sons.
Deu 4:13 MKJV And He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, ten commandments. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
Deu 4:14 MKJV And Jehovah commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments so that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.
Deu 4:44 MKJV And this is the Law which Moses set before the sons of Israel.
Deu 4:45 MKJV These are the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments which Moses spoke to the sons of Israel after they came forth out of Egypt,
Deu 4:46 MKJV beyond Jordan, in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel killed, after they had come forth out of Egypt.
Deu 4:47 MKJV And they possessed his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on this side Jordan toward the sunrise,
At various places we read the word “today” within the book of Deuteronomy. These indicate that all of the words Moses spoke was part of the “Book of the Torah”
Deu 11:13 MKJV And it will be, if you will listen carefully to My commandments which I command you today, to love Jehovah your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
Deu 11:32 MKJV And you shall be careful to do all the statutes and judgments which I set before you today.
When Israel appoints a King, the King have to write everything in the “Book of the Torah” down for himself.
Deu 17:18 MKJV And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write a copy of this Law in a book from before the priests, the Levites.
After all the words of the book of the Torah was spoken, Moses gave further instructions for when the Israelites enter the land, and then he added the final part to the book of the Torah which were the Blessings and the curses.
Deu 27:1 MKJV And Moses with the elders of Israel commanded the people saying, Keep all the commandments which I command you today.
Deu 27:2 MKJV And it will be, on the day when you shall pass over Jordan to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, you shall set up great stones and plaster them with plaster.
Deu 27:3 MKJV And you shall write on them all the words of the Law when you have passed over, so that you may go in to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, a land that flows with milk and honey, as Jehovah, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Deu 27:4 MKJV Therefore it shall be when you have gone over Jordan, you shall set up these stones which I command you today, in Mount Ebal. And you shall plaster them with plaster.
Deu 27:5 MKJV And you shall build an altar there to Jehovah your God, an altar of stones. You shall not lift up any iron tool on them.
Deu 27:6 MKJV You shall build the altar of Jehovah your God of uncut stones, and you shall offer burnt offerings on it to Jehovah your God.
Deu 27:7 MKJV And you shall offer peace offerings, and shall eat there, and rejoice before Jehovah your God.
Deu 27:8 MKJV And you shall write all the words of this Law very plainly on the stones.
Moses was not allowed to enter into the land of the Canaanites, so Moses gave the people and Joshua instruction on what they will do once they have entered the land and this, as well, was written down in the book of the Torah (Law)
In Chapter 31, it tells us that Moses wrote this Torah and gave it to the Priests, following with instructions regarding this Torah (Law)
Deu 31:9 MKJV And Moses wrote this Law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who carried the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and to all the elders of Israel.
Deu 31:10 MKJV And Moses commanded them, saying: At the end of seven years, at the set time of the year of release, in the Feast of Tabernacles,
Deu 31:11 MKJV when all Israel has come to appear before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose, you shall read this Law before all Israel in their hearing.
Deu 31:12 MKJV Gather the people, men and women and the little ones, and your stranger who is within your gates, so that they may hear and that they may learn and fear Jehovah your God, and be careful to do all the words of this Law,
Deu 31:13 MKJV and that their sons who have not known may hear and learn to fear Jehovah your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over Jordan to possess it.
Deu 31:25 MKJV Moses commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, saying,
Deu 31:26 MKJV Take this book of the Law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, so that it may be there for a witness against you.
Deu 31:27 MKJV For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck. Behold, while I am still alive with you today, you have been rebellious against Jehovah. And how much more after my death?
King Josiah was King for 18 years and he did not know about this book of the Torah. But when he became aware of it, it became a witness against all Israel, just as Moses have written.
I hope that I could make it clear by the verses quoted that the book of the Law that was found in the Temple is the same book of the Torah that was placed outside the ark of the Covenant and was hidden in the Temple until the High Priest Hilkiah found it and sent it to King Josiah. It is also this same book of the Law that Paul is using to explain what sin is in the Epistle to the Romans and it is also the same Law that James is referencing in his letter to the 12 scattered Tribes. It is also this book of the Law that Paul is mentioning to Timothy in the epistles addressed to him.
The Ministry of death, the Law of Condemnation
Let’ go to 2Corintiens Chapter 3 where Paul gave instructions regarding the condemnations under the New Covenant with the death and resurrection of Messiah. This is one of the many places in the New Testament that causes a lot of confusion under believers.
Ministers of the New Covenant
2Co 3:1 MKJV Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, like some, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
2Co 3:2 MKJV You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men,
2Co 3:3 MKJV it having been made plain that you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, not having been written with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not on tablets of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart.
2Co 3:4 MKJV And we have such trust through Christ toward God,
2Co 3:5 MKJV not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency is of God;
2Co 3:6 MKJV who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.
2Co 3:7 MKJV But if the ministry of death, having been engraved in letters in stone was with glory (so that the sons of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses because of the glory of his face), which was being done away;
2Co 3:8 MKJV shall not the ministry of the Spirit be with more glory?
2Co 3:9 MKJV For if the ministry of condemnation is glorious, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory.
2Co 3:10 MKJV For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels.
2Co 3:11 MKJV For if that which has been done away was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious.
2Co 3:12 MKJV Then since we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech.
2Co 3:13 MKJV And we are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of the thing being done away.
2Co 3:14 MKJV (But their thoughts were blinded; for until the present the same veil remains on the reading of the old covenant, not taken away.) But this veil has been done away in Christ.
2Co 3:15 MKJV But until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is on their heart.
2Co 3:16 MKJV But whenever it turns to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.
2Co 3:17 MKJV And the Lord is that Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
2Co 3:18 MKJV But we all, with our face having been unveiled, having beheld the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are being changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Lord Spirit.
Everything that was written in the book of the Torah was given to Moses when he was on mount Sinai. Everything that Moses taught to the children was engraved on the Tablets of stone and formed part of the covenant given. Why do I say this? Yahweh only wrote the 10 words of the 10 commandments no the Tablets of stone. On the 1st set and on the second set. Both times, Moses was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.
Exo 24:12 MKJV And Jehovah said to Moses, Come up to Me in the mountain, and be there. And I will give you tablets of stone, and the Law, and commandments which I have written, so that you may teach them.
Exo 32:15 MKJV And Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the testimony were in his hand. The tablets were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other.
Exo 32:16 MKJV And the tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God. It was engraved on the tablets.
We need to understand that the Bile is written in a summation. Sometimes, like here, all the information is not given, but when Moses re-tells what happened, he gives us more detail. This is what we call “progressive revelation” “The writing of God” does not mean that Moses could not have been the scribe to this writing. We will learn that with the 2nd Tablets of stone that Yahweh only wrote the 10 words, but yet, the Tablets of stone was copies of the 1st stones.
Exo 34:1 MKJV And Jehovah said to Moses, Cut out two tablets of stone like the first. And I will write upon the tablets the words that were in the first tablets which you broke.
Exo 34:4 MKJV And he cut out two tablets of stone like the first. And Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as Jehovah had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tablets of stone.
Exo 34:10 MKJV And He said, Behold! I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation. And all the people in whose midst you are shall see the work of Jehovah, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
Exo 34:11 MKJV Observe that which I command you this day. Behold!…
Exo 34:27 MKJV And Jehovah said to Moses, Write these words for yourself; for on the mouth of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.
Exo 34:28 MKJV And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water. And He wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
Deu 5:22 MKJV Jehovah spoke these words to all your assembly in the mountain out of the midst of the fire of the cloud and of the thick darkness with a great voice. And He added no more. And He wrote them in two tablets of stone and delivered them to me.
Deu 9:9 MKJV When I had gone up into the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which Jehovah made with you, then I stayed in the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.
Now we again will have a recount of what happened with the 1st set of Tablets of stone.
Deu 9:10 MKJV And Jehovah delivered to me two tablets of stone written with the finger of God, and on them according to all the words which Jehovah spoke with you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
Deu 9:11 MKJV And it happened, at the end of forty days and forty nights Jehovah gave me the two tables of stone, the tablets of the covenant.
Deu 9:17 MKJV And I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands and broke them before your eyes.
Deu 10:1 MKJV At that time Jehovah said to me: Cut out two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me into the mountain, and make an ark of wood.
Deu 10:2 MKJV And I will write on the tablets the words that were in the first tablets which you broke, and you shall put them in the ark.
Deu 10:3 MKJV And I made an ark of acacia-wood, and cut out two tablets of stone like the first, and went up into the mountain, having the two tablets in my hand.
Deu 10:4 MKJV And He wrote on the tablets, according to the first writing, the Ten Commandments which Jehovah spoke to you in the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly. And Jehovah gave them to me.
Deu 10:5 MKJV And I turned myself and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made. And there they are, as Jehovah commanded me.
Deu 10:10 MKJV And I stayed in the mountain, according to the first time, forty days and forty nights. And Jehovah listened to me at that time also. Jehovah would not destroy you.
Exo 34:28 MKJV And he was there with Jehovah forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water. And He wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
The 2nd “He” is capitalized in English, but in Hebrew the word “He” is part of the verb and does not stand on its own. It can be rendered either capital or small letters. The context for “He” in this sentence is Moses. Also, there is no commas in Hebrew. So, going to the interlinear text of this verse, it could also say “the Covenant of the 10 commandments” rather than “the covenant, the Ten Commandments”
It was during the giving of the 2nd tablets that Moses had a shining face so bright that he had to cover it with a veil.
Exo 34:29 MKJV And it happened as Moses was going down from the mountain of Sinai, the two tablets of the testimony being in Moses’ hand as he went down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face had become luminous through His speaking with him.
Exo 34:30 MKJV And Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face had become luminous. And they were afraid to come near him.
Exo 34:31 MKJV And Moses called to them. And Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them.
Exo 34:32 MKJV And afterward all the sons of Israel came near. And he commanded them all that Jehovah had spoken with him in Mount Sinai.
Exo 34:33 MKJV And Moses finished speaking with them, and he put a veil on his face.
So, the context of 2Corintiens Chapter 3 is the giving of the 2nd set of Tablets. The condemnations for not keeping the covenant that was written on the Tablets of stone was all put together in chronology by Moses when he gave the book of the Torah to the Israelites. Those who walk in the sins written on the stone tablets walk in the condemnation that was given as well, and they are blinded as not to see through the vail to the greater promise that Yahweh gave to the children of Israel.
2Co 3:7 MKJV But if the ministry of death, having been engraved in letters in stone was with glory (so that the sons of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses because of the glory of his face), which was being done away;
2Co 3:8 MKJV shall not the ministry of the Spirit be with more glory?
2Co 3:9 MKJV For if the ministry of condemnation is glorious, much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory.
The ministry of death is in reference to the law of sin and death. The ministry of condemnation is the parts mentioned in the book of the Law that condemns those who walk in sin and break the commandments of Yahweh.
2Co 3:13 MKJV And we are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of the thing being done away.
2Co 3:14 MKJV (But their thoughts were blinded; for until the present the same veil remains on the reading of the old covenant, not taken away.) But this veil has been done away in Christ.
2Co 3:15 MKJV But until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is on their heart.
With the veil being removed from our eyes, we can see the righteousness of Yahweh in the book of the Torah. We look beyond the condemnation since it was done away with in Messiah and we can see the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham.
The covenant of Yahweh which was made at mount Sinai, and then renewed when the people entered into the land, was broken during the time of Jeremiah. We will read about this in Jeremiah chapter 11. The condemnation of the full extend of the Torah came on the children of Israel.
These condemnations were nailed to the cross and done away with. When Yeshua died, all the condemnations caused by the sins of Israel, all the way back to Adam, including the Golden Calve and the Ba’al worship of all the tribes of Israel and their Kings was forgiven. But in order to get this forgiveness, Yeshua’s sacrifice must be accepted and repentance have to be made for forgiveness, else the vail is not removed and also not the condemnation.
And just to be clear that Paul did not mean the book of the Torah was done away with, or even everything including the 10 commandments as “the church” teaches, lets read the 1st and last part of the Book of the Torah:
Deu 4:1 MKJV And now, Israel, listen to the statutes and to the judgments which I teach you, in order to do them, so that you may live and go in and possess the land which Jehovah, the God of your fathers gives you.
Deu 4:2 MKJV You shall not add to the Word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, so that you may keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I command you.
Deu 4:3 MKJV Your eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-peor. For Jehovah your God has destroyed from among you all the men that followed Baal-peor.
Deu 4:4 MKJV And you who held fast to Jehovah your God are alive, every one of you, this day.
Deu 4:5 MKJV Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, so that you should do so in the land where you go to possess it.
Deu 4:6 MKJV And you shall keep and do them, for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Deu 4:7 MKJV For who is a great nation whose God is coming near to them, as Jehovah our God is, in all our calling on Him?
Deu 4:8 MKJV And who is a great nation whose statutes and judgments are so righteous as all this Law which I set before you today?
Deu 4:9 MKJV Only take heed to yourself and keep your soul carefully, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. But teach them to your sons, and your sons’ sons.
Deu 4:10 MKJV Remember the day that you stood before Jehovah your God in Horeb, when Jehovah said to me, Gather the people to Me, and I will make them hear My Words so that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and they may teach their sons.
Deu 4:11 MKJV And you came near and stood under the mountain. And the mountain burned with fire to the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness.
Deu 4:12 MKJV And Jehovah spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the voice of the words, but saw no likeness, only a voice.
Deu 30:1 MKJV And it shall be when all these things have come on you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and when you shall call them to mind among all the nations where Jehovah your God has driven you,
Deu 30:2 MKJV and shall return to Jehovah your God and shall obey His voice according to all that I command you today, you and your sons, with all your heart, and with all your soul,
Deu 30:3 MKJV then Jehovah your God will turn your captivity. And He will have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the nations where Jehovah your God has scattered you.
Deu 30:4 MKJV If you are driven out into the outermost parts of the heavens, Jehovah your God will gather you from there, and He will bring you from there.
Deu 30:5 MKJV And Jehovah your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. And He will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.
Deu 30:6 MKJV And Jehovah your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your seed, to love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.
Deu 30:7 MKJV And Jehovah your God will put all these curses on your enemies, and on those that hate you, who persecuted you.
Deu 30:8 MKJV And you shall return and obey the voice of Jehovah, and do all His commandments which I command you today.
Deu 30:9 MKJV And Jehovah your God will make you have plenty in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your land, for good. For Jehovah will again rejoice over you for good, as He rejoiced over your fathers;
Deu 30:10 MKJV for you shall listen to the voice of Jehovah your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the Law, and if you turn to Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 30:11 MKJV For this commandment which I command you today is not hidden from you, neither is it far off.
Deu 30:12 MKJV It is not in Heaven, that you should say, Who shall go up for us to Heaven, and bring it to us, so that we may hear it and do it?
Deu 30:13 MKJV Nor is it beyond the sea, that you should say, Who shall go over the sea for us to the region beyond the sea, and bring it to us, so that we may hear it and do it?
Deu 30:14 MKJV But the Word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may do it.
Deu 30:15 MKJV Behold! I have set before you today life and good, and death and evil,
Deu 30:16 MKJV in that I command you today to love Jehovah your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, so that you may live and multiply. And Jehovah your God shall bless you in the land where you go to possess it.
Deu 30:17 MKJV But if you turn away your heart, so that you will not hear, but shall be drawn away and worship other gods and serve them,
Deu 30:18 MKJV I declare to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days on the land where you pass over Jordan to go to possess it.
Deu 30:19 MKJV I call Heaven and earth to record today against you. I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore, choose life, so that both you and your seed may live,
Deu 30:20 MKJV so that you may love Jehovah your God, and that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him. For He is your life and the length of your days, so that you may dwell in the land which Jehovah swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it to them.
Mat 5:17 MKJV Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill.
Mat 5:18 MKJV For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled. (Filled up or completed)
Mat 5:19 MKJV Therefore whoever shall relax one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven.
Mat 5:20 MKJV For I say to you that unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven.
Deu 6:1 MKJV And these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which Jehovah our God commanded to teach you so that you might do them in the land where you go, to possess it,
Deu 6:2 MKJV that you might fear Jehovah your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you, and your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life, and so that your days may be prolonged.
Deu 6:3 MKJV Then hear, O, Israel, and be careful to do it, so that it may be well with you, and that you may greatly multiply, as Jehovah, the God of our fathers has promised you, in the land that flows with milk and honey.
Deu 6:4 MKJV Hear, O, Israel. Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.
Deu 6:5 MKJV And you shall love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deu 6:6 MKJV And these words which I command you this day shall be in your heart.
Deu 6:25 MKJV And if we are careful to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God, as He has commanded us, it shall be our righteousness.
IT is right here where righteousness is defined. And this does not change because Yeshua died on the cross or because Paul is difficult to understand. Paul never changed or spoke against this principle. The Righteousness of the New Testament is on the foundation of understanding that our righteousness is in keeping the Ordinances, Commandments and Statutes as it was given to us by Moses here in the Book of the Law.

Condemnations in the Book of the Torah
Let’s go have a look at these condemnations written in the book of the Torah (Law).
The very 1st thing that Moses told the new generation was that Idolatry was forbidden:
Deu 4:15 MKJV Therefore take good heed to yourselves, for you saw no kind of likeness on the day Jehovah spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,
Deu 4:16 MKJV lest you act corruptly and make yourselves a graven image, the likeness of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
Deu 4:17 MKJV the likeness of any beast on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air,
Deu 4:18 MKJV the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish in the waters beneath the earth;
Deu 4:19 MKJV and lest you lift up your eyes to the heavens, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, lest you should be driven to worship them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has allotted to all nations under all the heavens.
Deu 4:23 MKJV Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which He made with you, and make you a graven image, a likeness of anything which Jehovah your God has forbidden you.
Deu 4:24 MKJV For Jehovah your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Deu 4:25 MKJV When you father sons and sons of sons, and when you shall have remained long in the land and have dealt corruptly by making a graven image, the likeness of anything, and shall do evil in the sight of Jehovah your God, to provoke Him to anger,
Deu 4:26 MKJV I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land which you are crossing over Jordan to possess. You shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed.
Deu 4:27 MKJV And Jehovah shall scatter you among the nations, and you shall be left few in number among the nations where Jehovah shall drive you.
Deu 4:28 MKJV And there you shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.
Deu 4:29 MKJV But if you shall seek Jehovah your God from there, you shall find Him, if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 4:30 MKJV When you are in trouble and when all these things have found you in the latter days, then you shall return to Jehovah your God and shall be obedient to His voice.
Deu 4:31 MKJV For Jehovah your God is a merciful God; He will not forsake you, nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.
The whole book of Deuteronomy is written in a sense of “If you do this” everything will be well, but “If you do not do this” then there will be consequences. I will try to bring some verses out as examples, but everything leads up to the blessings and curses which is found in Deuteronomy Chapters 28-30.
Deu 4:2 MKJV You shall not add to the Word which I command you, neither shall you take away from it, so that you may keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I command you.

Deu 6:12 MKJV you shall be on guard lest you forget Jehovah who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.
Deu 6:13 MKJV You shall fear Jehovah your God and serve Him, and shall swear by His name.
Deu 6:14 MKJV You shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people all around you,
Deu 6:15 MKJV for Jehovah your God is a jealous God among you, lest the anger of Jehovah your God be kindled against you and destroy you from off the face of the earth.
Deu 6:16 MKJV You shall not tempt Jehovah your God as you tempted in Massah.
Deu 6:17 MKJV You shall carefully keep the commandments of Jehovah your God, and His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you.
Deu 6:18 MKJV And you shall do the right and good in the sight of Jehovah, so that it may be well with you, and so that you may go in and possess the good land which Jehovah swore to your fathers,
Deu 7:1 MKJV When Jehovah your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,
Deu 7:2 MKJV and Jehovah your God shall deliver them before you, you shall crush them, completely destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.
Deu 7:3 MKJV Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to his son, nor shall you take his daughter to your son.
Deu 7:9 MKJV Therefore, know that Jehovah your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations.
Deu 7:10 MKJV And He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slow to repay him who hates Him. He will repay him to his face.
Deu 7:11 MKJV And you shall keep the commandments and the statutes and the judgments which I command you today, to do them.
Deu 7:12 MKJV And it shall be, because you listen to these judgments and keep and do them, Jehovah your God shall keep to you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.
Deu 7:25 MKJV You shall burn the graven images of their gods with fire. You shall not desire the silver or gold on them, nor take it for yourself, so that you may not be snared in it. For it is an abomination to Jehovah your God.
Deu 7:26 MKJV And you shall not bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it. You shall utterly hate it, and you shall utterly despise it. For it is a cursed thing.
Deu 8:11 MKJV Beware that you do not forget Jehovah your God, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command you today,
Deu 8:12 MKJV lest when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and lived in them,
Deu 8:13 MKJV and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied,
Deu 8:14 MKJV then your heart might be lifted up, and you might forget Jehovah your God who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.
Deu 9:4 MKJV Do not speak in your heart, after Jehovah your God has cast them out from before you, saying: For my righteousness, Jehovah has brought me in to possess this land. But for the wickedness of these nations, Jehovah your God drives them out from before you.
Deu 9:5 MKJV Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go to possess their land. But for the wickedness of these nations Jehovah your God drives them out from before you, so that He may perform the Word which Jehovah swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Deu 9:6 MKJV Therefore, understand that Jehovah your God does not give you this good land, to possess it, for your righteousness. For you are a stiff-necked people.
Deu 10:18 MKJV He executes justice for the fatherless and widow, and loves the stranger in giving him food and clothing.
Deu 10:19 MKJV Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Deu 10:20 MKJV You shall fear Jehovah your God. You shall serve Him, and you shall hold fast to Him, and swear by His name.
Deu 11:27 MKJV A blessing if you obey the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you today,
Deu 11:28 MKJV and a curse if you will not obey the commandments of Jehovah your God, but will turn aside out of the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.
Deu 12:2 MKJV You shall completely destroy all the places in which the nations which you shall possess served their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree.
Deu 12:3 MKJV And you shall overthrow their altars and break their pillars, and burn their pillars with fire. And you shall cut down the carved images of their gods, and destroy their names out of that place.
Deu 12:4 MKJV You shall not do so to Jehovah your God.
Deu 12:13 MKJV Take heed to yourself that you do not offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see.
Deu 12:14 MKJV But in the place which Jehovah shall choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.
Deu 12:15 MKJV However, with all your soul’s desire you shall sacrifice and eat flesh in all your gates, according to the blessing of Jehovah your God which He has given you, the clean and the unclean, one may eat, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.
Deu 12:29 MKJV When Jehovah your God shall cut off the nations before you, where you go to possess them, and you take their place and dwell in their land,
Deu 12:30 MKJV take heed to yourself that you do not become snared by following them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not ask about their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods, that I too may do likewise?
Deu 12:31 MKJV You shall not do so to Jehovah your God. For every abomination to Jehovah, which He hates, they have done to their gods; even their sons and their daughters they have burned in the fire to their gods.
Deu 13:1 MKJV If a prophet rises among you, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder,
Deu 13:2 MKJV and the sign or the wonder which he foretold to you occurs, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them,
Deu 13:3 MKJV you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For Jehovah your God is testing you to know whether you love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 14:1 MKJV You are the sons of Jehovah your God. You shall not cut yourselves nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
Deu 14:2 MKJV For you are a holy people to Jehovah your God, and Jehovah has chosen you to be a peculiar people to Himself, above all the nations that are on the earth.
Deu 14:3 MKJV You shall not eat any hateful thing.
Deu 14:22 MKJV You shall truly tithe all the increase of your seed that the field brings forth year by year.
Deu 16:1 MKJV Observe the month Abib, and keep the Passover to Jehovah your God. For in the month of Abib, Jehovah your God brought you forth out of Egypt by night.
Deu 16:5 MKJV You may not sacrifice the Passover within any of your gates, which Jehovah your God gives you,
Deu 16:6 MKJV but at the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to place His name in, there you shall sacrifice the Passover at evening, at the going of the sun, at the time that you came out of Egypt.
Deu 16:9 MKJV You shall count seven weeks to yourselves. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time you began to put the sickle to the grain.
Deu 16:10 MKJV And you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to Jehovah your God with a measure of a free-will offering of your hand, which you shall give according as Jehovah your God has blessed you.
Deu 16:16 MKJV Three times in a year shall all your males appear before Jehovah your God in the place which He shall choose: in the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and in the Feast of Weeks, and in the Feast of Tabernacles. And they shall not appear before Jehovah empty,
Deu 16:17 MKJV but each with his gift in his hand, according to the blessing of Jehovah your God, which He has given you.
Deu 16:18 MKJV You shall appoint judges and officers for yourself in all your gates which Jehovah your God gives you, tribe by tribe. And they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.
Deu 16:19 MKJV You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not respect persons, nor take a gift. For a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.
Deu 16:20 MKJV You shall follow that which is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which Jehovah your God gives you.
Deu 16:21 MKJV You shall not set up for yourself pillars of any trees near the altar of Jehovah your God which you shall make for yourself.
Deu 16:22 MKJV Nor shall you set up an image, which Jehovah your God hates.
Deu 17:2 MKJV If there is found among you, inside any of your gates which Jehovah your God gives you, a man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of Jehovah your God, in breaking His covenant,
Deu 17:3 MKJV and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,
Deu 17:4 MKJV and if it is told you, and you have heard and inquired carefully, and, behold, it is true and the thing is certain, such abomination is done in Israel;
Deu 17:5 MKJV then you shall bring forth that man or that woman who has committed that evil thing, to your gates, even that man or that woman, and shall stone them with stones until they die.
Deu 18:9 MKJV When you come to the land which Jehovah your God gives you, you shall not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations.
Deu 18:10 MKJV There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that uses divination, an observer of clouds, or a fortune-teller, or a witch,
Deu 18:11 MKJV or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or one who calls to the dead.
Deu 18:12 MKJV For all that do these things are an abomination to Jehovah. And because of these abominations Jehovah your God drives them out from before you.
Deu 19:14 MKJV You may not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which those in the past have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land which Jehovah your God gives you to possess it.
Deu 19:16 MKJV If a false witness rises up against any man to testify a falling away against him,
Deu 19:17 MKJV then both the men who are disagreeing shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges which shall be in those days.
Deu 19:18 MKJV And the judges shall make careful inquiry. And behold, if the witness is a false witness and has testified falsely against his brother,
Deu 19:19 MKJV then you shall do to him as he had thought to have done to his brother. So you shall put the evil away from among you.
Deu 20:16 MKJV But of the cities of these people, which Jehovah your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes.
Deu 20:17 MKJV But you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites; as Jehovah your God has commanded you,
Deu 20:18 MKJV so that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominations which they have done to their gods. So you would sin against Jehovah your God.
Deu 23:17 MKJV There shall be no harlot of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
Deu 23:18 MKJV You shall not bring the hire of a harlot, or the price of a dog, into the house of Jehovah your God for any vow. For even both these are hateful to Jehovah your God.
Deu 25:13 MKJV You shall not have in your bag two kinds of weights, a great stone and a small.
Deu 25:14 MKJV You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a great ephah and a small.
Deu 25:15 MKJV You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure you shall have, so that your days may be lengthened in the land which Jehovah your God gives you.
King Josiah spent about 6 years in cleaning up the idolatry from the lands of all Israel. As he was reading through these commandments, he would have recognized everything written that could result in the breaking of the covenant.
Next week we will finish reading the book of the Torah, looking at the Law of Condemnation, which would be the curses spoken of, if Israel broke the covenant of Yahweh.
